Committees, Initiatives, and Community Partnerships:

As the University of Toronto Scarborough continues on the path of inspiring Inclusive Excellence, we are always mindful of the fact that our success has been made possible by the awesome opportunity given to us by our host Indigenous communities to operate on their lands. We are grateful for that generosity and cherish our continuing partnerships with them. We remain resolute in our commitment to addressing the calls to action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. We also strive to realize the recommendations from the Answering the Call – Wecheehetowin: Report of the Steering Committee for the University of Toronto’s Response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, with the guidance and support of local Indigenous communities.

UTSC Truth, Reconciliation and Indigenous Initiatives Advisory Committee (TRIIAC)

The U of T Scarborough Truth, Reconciliation and Indigenous Initiatives Advisory Committee serves as an advisory body to the Vice-President and Principal and the Executive Team as they undertake initiatives to uphold, sustain, and strengthen UTSC’s strategic priorities and objectives with respect to promoting, supporting and enhancing Indigenous presence in all facets of our mission.

UTSC Sub-Committee for Indigenous Place-making

The UTSC Sub-Committee for Indigenous Place-making is a campus advisory group and functions as a sub-committee of the UTSC Truth, Reconciliation & Indigenous Initiatives Advisory Committee. It is responsible for generating ideas, making recommendations, and/or offering feedback on initiatives to support creation of welcoming spaces for Indigenous staff, faculty, students and community members through visible representations of Indigenous language, knowledge, history, cultures, and art on campus.These visible markers of our commitment to Indigeneity at UTSC include new campus wayfinding, revision of existing wayfinding, naming/renaming buildings, interior and exterior spaces, and establishing prominent displays of Indigenous art.

The Indigenous Book Club

The Indigenous Book Club is a tri-campus initiative started at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus’ (UTSC) Office of Student Experience & Wellbeing in collaboration with the UTSC Library. The book club goals are to foster a space of collaboration, sharing, inquiry, and respect amongst faculty, staff, and students through the discovery and awareness of Indigenous authors and themes.
