The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Office provides educational workshops that seek to strengthen understanding and advance equity, diversity and inclusion practices across the UTSC campus. Workshops are open to students, staff, faculty, and librarians.

This module is designed to support individuals by providing foundational education towards developing a deeper understanding of the terms, concepts, and principles, related to equity, diversity and inclusion. The module includes references and resources to support you as you think about how to apply your learning. After completing the module, participants will:
Understand and reflect on key concepts and principles of equity, diversity and inclusion Â
Understand the barriers to inclusion and how to mitigate them in the workplace Â
Understand the expectations and obligations of staff as they relate to the University’s commitment to create and promote a working environment that is equitable, inclusive and free of discrimination and harassment; and Â
Identify tools, strategies, and resources which will support efforts to enhance diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace

This foundational course will explore key equity concepts and include self-reflection activities that will contribute to a greater understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion principles and practices to help advance equity and inclusion at the University of Toronto.
In this 90 minute session, participants will:   Â
Become familiar with key equity terms and explore the nuances of inclusive language  Â
Reflect on lived experience and privileges as they relate to others and society​   Â
Identify areas of growth and action toward co-creating inclusive environments Â
Explore scenarios specific to your role or unit Â
All U of T Scarborough (UTSC) campus community members have an essential role to play in creating and promoting an inclusive, respectful and equitable campus community – this includes understanding the negative impacts of microaggressions. Advancing equity and inclusion at UTSC requires that we understand and recognize microaggressions, how they manifest in the workplace or classroom, and learn methods for addressing and reducing them.
In this 2-hour session, participants will:  Â
Explore the impact of microaggressions  Â
Understand how microaggressions may show up in your specific unit  Â
Self-reflect on individual behaviours that can be a barrier to building inclusive environments.
This event is hosted by the EDIO and facilitated by members of the EDIO team.
All U of T Scarborough (UTSC) campus community members have an essential role to play in creating and promoting an inclusive, respectful and equitable campus community. This workshop will explore key concepts of inclusive leadership and will include self-reflection activities that will help you develop a greater understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion principles and practices. This workshop will support your growth as an inclusive leader by introducing you to strategies to empower you and fellow community members. Â
In this 2 hour session, participants will: Â Â
Self-reflect on identity, lived experience and privileges, and how this intersects with the identities and experiences of others (relationality)Â
Explore the impacts of stereotypes and bias rooted in racism and other forms of oppression Â
Be introduced to the concepts of intersectionality and anti-oppressionÂ
Learn strategies to interrupt or disrupt actions rooted in biases, stereotypes, and discriminatory beliefs.Â

Advancing equity and inclusion at the University of Toronto requires that we understand and recognize the ways that oppression plays a role in bias, discrimination, hierarchies, and how these patterns manifest in the workplace or classroom. It is also essential to understand the principles of anti-oppression in order to develop skills to respond to, and disrupt, instances of oppression on our campus and within our communities.
In this 2-hour session, participants will:Â
Gain a basic understanding of how oppression operates within social, political and economic systems;
Identify ways that oppressive practices can show up in every day interactions;
Self-reflect on individual behaviours that can be a barrier to building inclusive environments; and
Learn basic anti-oppressive practices and theory

This foundational course will explore key concepts in gender and sexual diversity that will deepen your understanding of practices to help advance equity and inclusion at the University of Toronto.
In this 2-hour session, participants will be introduced to:
some impacts of heteronormativity and ciscentrism in workplace settings
the difference between biological sex, gender identity and expression, and sexual orientation
resources that outline best practices in 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion in the workplace
U of T policies and human rights legislation
the importance of using correct pronouns
All U of T Scarborough (UTSC) campus community members have an essential role to play in creating and promoting an inclusive, respectful and equitable campus community. This 2-hour facilitated discussion explores the first 3 modules on Bias created by TIDE, the Toronto Initiative for Diversity & Excellence. In the session we will review the content learned in the modules, and lead a discussion on bias, how it shows up in the workplace, and develop strategies to interrupt the ways bias can lead to, or reinforce, inequality and exclusion.
Pre-requisites: In advance of session, all participants will complete the Unconscious Bias Education Modules 1-3: https://www.toronto-tide.ca/education-modules/. Sign-in requires a staff or faculty UTORID.
