All U of T Scarborough (UTSC) campus community members have an essential role to play in creating and promoting an inclusive, respectful and equitable campus community – this includes understanding the negative impacts of microaggressions. Advancing equity and inclusion at UTSC requires that we understand and recognize microaggressions, how they manifest in the workplace or classroom, and learn methods for addressing and reducing them.
In this 2-hour session, participants will:  Â
Explore the impact of microaggressions  Â
Understand how microaggressions may show up in your specific unit  Â
Self-reflect on individual behaviours that can be a barrier to building inclusive environments.
This event is hosted by the EDIO and facilitated by members of the EDIO team.
As part of UTSC’s commitment to Inclusive Excellence, all U of T Scarborough staff, faculty and librarians have an essential role to play in creating and promoting an inclusive, respectful and equitable campus community. Advancing equity and inclusion at the University of Toronto requires that we understand and recognize the ways that oppression plays a role in bias, discrimination, hierarchies, and how these patterns manifest in the workplace or classroom. It is also essential to understand the principles of anti-oppression in order to develop skills to respond to, and disrupt, instances of oppression on our campus and within our communities.
In this 2-hour session, participants will:Â
Gain a basic understanding of how oppression operates within social, political and economic systems;
Identify ways that oppressive practices can show up in every day interactions;
Self-reflect on individual behaviours that can be a barrier to building inclusive environments; and
Learn basic anti-oppressive practices and theory
This session is hosted by the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Office, and facilitated by members of the EDIO team.
