19th Annual Strawberry Ceremony for MMIWG2S

Come join the Indigenous Initiatives team as we head Downtown with our UTSC community to join the 19th annual Strawberry Ceremony for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Trans and Two-Spirit people (MMIWGT2S). For students who don't have transportation we will be meeting in front of SCSU at 9am and heading out together. First we will be heading to the Native Woman's resource Centre for Breakfast and then marching with community at 11:15am to the Strawberry Ceremony. For students wanting to meet at the ceremony at 12:30 and need transit tickets please let our team know.
At its core, this ceremony is to honour, grieve, and remember missing and murdered loved ones who have otherwise been made invisible. This trauma is complex and a part of a larger, sustained, daily colonial assault on Indigenous peoples, families, and communities. This ceremony takes place at police headquarters, the location where this ceremony started almost two decades ago, the epicentre of the enactment of colonial violence on Indigenous peoples. We hope you can join us! Contact Juanita The Indigenous Engagement coordinator if you have any questions juanita.muise@utoronto.ca
