Setting a Foundation for Trans and Nonbinary Inclusion in the Workplace
Develop your capacity to contribute to an inclusive workplace in this learning session for staff, faculty and librarians.
On November 18, join the EDIO to strengthen your understanding of gender diversity and gain practical tools to be a better ally to trans, nonbinary and gender-diverse colleagues and students. This session will shed light on some of the barriers trans and nonbinary people often face at work — and how small shifts in language, behavior, and systems can make a big difference.
This is an IN-PERSON session (hosted in AC321), offering space to learn more and discuss key terms, identities and concepts and to better understand gender through a human rights perspective. This is not an advanced session, so we particularly invite learners who are at an earlier stage in their learning journey about gender diversity.
If you have questions about this session, please contact the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Office edio.utsc@utoronto.ca.All staff and faculty have an essential role to play in creating and promoting an inclusive, respectful and equitable campus community that is free from homophobia, biphobia, transphobia and other forms of discrimination against 2SLGBTQ+ communities. This foundational course will explore key terms and language, including the concept of intersectionality and the use of pronouns.
In this session facilitated by the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Office, participants will:
- Learn and apply vocabulary that will increase your capacity to be gender-inclusive
- Identify barriers in the workplace for trans, nonbinary and gender-diverse individuals (including discrimination)
- Demonstrate the importance of an intersectional analysis in discussions on human rights
- Highlight pathways and strategies for success of gender-diverse staff. In addition, we will provide a variety of resources for further learning.
