In celebration and extension of Black History Month and in anticipation of International Women's Day, the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Office invites you to Black Women Dreaming: The Process and Product of Contemplating Our Futurity.

Please note: this is a closed event for Black women-identified Staff, Faculty, and Librarians at UTSC.

There will be lunch served at this event.

Dreaming provides process and space to think beyond our material realities. For Black women, the act of dreaming is resistance (e.g., Hersey, 2022). The entry point is our lived experience (e.g., Girvan et al., 2020). For us, the products of our dreams are often not realized due to circumstances and bad mind.

As Black History Month is a time when we think about our past, present and future, this immersive experience is designed to create space to unpack, relax, restore, and dream as rest from producing (e.g., Hersey, 2022). It engages nuanced understandings of experience as it relates to contemplating futurity. Importantly, an overarching goal of this event is to expand the Canadian conversation and contributions to the Black diasporic feminist thought project (e.g., Lorde, 1984/2007). As an outcome of this session, our dream product (which engaged multiples modalities of dreaming) serve as a creative declaration of the dreams we will fulfill.
